None of them are local to Chicago, but about half of them are in the States. I know most cosplayers just want airfare and hotel taken care of, not anything else, but it varies!

hmmm,
I don't see Bollow covering that? Especially if he has to cover other celebrities amenities.
Course final say is Bollow's.

There's no money for anybody other than "legit" celebs.

As a costumer, I just know if it were me, if I can get travel and lodging taken care of? I'd show. Some might want more like food and all that, but, how much I'd save on hotel and airfare? Com'on. Some of these costumers can afford to eat themselves. haha

You know what you might want to try though, Bollow, is get Miracole and Chris Burns to have a table or represent Avengers Assemble. They have a webseries (it's cute, not hilarious like lots of people think, but it's witty), and it's blowing up. Even had Stan Lee guest star last episode. Miracole's short got put on MTV.com.
I know they do the booth thing because they sell merch, I THINK. Sometimes if Miracole or Chris aren't AT their booth, they tweet "scavengers". Like, if you follow them on twitter, and they're at a con, and they go "If you go to the blahblah lobby and scream AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! you get a tshirt" or something. Not a bad idea!

I like the idea, and it brings in the idea of twitting during the con so congoers are more interactive at the event! I think we really need to see how much of a draw they would bring to the con. I think it's real cool that they got Stan lee to appear in their web series. And that would be a selling point if it's decided to have these guys at CYPHAN. As Bollow stated earlier, there's only money for Legit Celebrities. . Bollow, question here. Can you give us a list of celebrites (major and minor) that YOU are considering so far? Also, do you want to meet to discuss this at some point in the near future? I think Keastin has a lot of good ideas to make Cyphan more 'Foward thinking' and perhaps get in on a new trend that some cons may be 'missing the boat'. It's a risk, sure everything is. But maybe discussing it within our group might bring more ideas to the forefront faster? ok i'll hush. -River

Bollow has been out of town, he'll be back next Tuesday.
I have spoken to a lot of Cyphan vets who have gone to one or both of Cyphan, and I've gotten a lot of feedback from others (ages 21-31) who have mostly almost all stated they "feel the convention is full of old people". I'm not giving names for their sake and no opportunities for drama, but, it was a nice handful this past week when I was asking who felt this way.
I think we need to seriously take this into consideration on what features we have for the con. Some respected the hommage to older celebrities from original series or movies, but, it's not a big enough deal to bring in a crowd (unless you get Star Trek original or TNG crew LOL). I know I keep repeating myself, but because the youth of today is so geared around social media, social networking, we should attract that interest. Focus on that. That's why I'm pushing for "Youtube celebrities", costumers, etc.
You know that feeling you get when you hang out at someone's house... but they still live with their parents?
That's the description I'm getting from people on their feedback about Cyphan.

So essentially we need celebs that attract a younger crowd?
Incorporating the social media is a great way to bring in this 'younger' crowd, the thing is the 'payoff'. If they get hyped a lot, my concern is would they expect more than what we can provide?
is Cyphan a smaller con? yes.
If the younger crowd is keen on that, and isn't expecting a WW or C2E2 then we're golden. But that's what i'm looking at. How do we promote ourselves but keeping things in perspective.
I've not done the 'con circuit' much. but i've never really heard of 'youtube celebrities' being in demand. is it new and crazy? hells yes.
But bottom line, I know Bollow wants a return on his investment. Will youtube celebs and costumers be able to draw in the crowd he needs to make a profit? Granted our resources aren't high, and he can't promise them a free room, airfare, etc. so if they are cool with that. Awesome, I cant' see why Bollow wouldn't want them.

Like I mentioned before, Yayahan.com, is known firstly as a world wide costumer. She now does the booth/judge thing since she's become extremely large and have surpass just the title of a "Costumer". She works for an airline, so her travel expenses are free. She does the booth thing, and is CRAZY popular at Acen (which, is as we all know, almost entirely youth). Like I mentioned to Bollow, Yaya is like 5 birds 1 stone lol Costumer, vendor, judge, celeb, free airfaire. At this point, our third year in now, if the current crowd we've had has been the same, and vendor outcome has gotten worse, I say we try this route out anyway, before we get TOO worse. I know it does sound crazy, but Youtube celebrities are extremely seriously legitimate these days. They're almost always a guest at SOME type of convention (pending on their videos' themes), as well as some have branched to even be affiliated with companies (usually this applies to gamers). Even a wrestler named Zack Ryder, became so big to his fans on his Youtube, he's now a regular on WWE Raw. He's working with Hugh Jackman now! (for their storyline LOL) I also feel that maybe we should have Challengers Comics shop be a vendor, too. This shop is like the official one that Jill Thompson, CM Punk and maybe others shop/station at. Get this crowd in, and they'll bring their people to follow. I'm already in with them a bit because I kinda dated one of their "people", as well as they want me as a "go to costumer when the celebrities come to the shop". They throw events at their shop all the time, so I know they'd promote Cyphan if we invited them. challengerscomics.com/www.facebook.com/challengerscomicstwitter.com/gochallengersgo

I dunno, being part of the 21-25 group I wouldn't go to a con just for a YouTube celeb or a costumer. Van's room mate's girlfriend DOES have a signed autograph from Yaya Han though, so that's something.
I could see some of the really strong webseries being an attractive draw, but I don't think Cyphan can afford Felicia Day or Whil Wheaton. I would go for a middle ground, find someone who appeals strongly to both generations and flesh out the list with other people who appeal to one or both.

Good points from you both.
I do agree with Sparrow, that the YouTube Celebs, while obviously popular, is a risky proposition. I don't feel strong enough that's going to be a huge draw.
YaYa on the other hand, does sound like she would bring in a draw and have her fans come to CYPHAN to meet her there. Being a smaller con I could feasibly see her interacting with people and having fun throughout the weekend, creating more fans, tweeting her interactions at the con, etc. etc. So I do support this idea.
Challenger's Comics? - never heard of them, but hey, if they are a popular vendor and can bring people in, I'm all for it. Comics will always be a staple at any con!
Sparrow, regarding 'middle-ground' celebs, i'm still thinking voice actors would be very cool. but i don't know how much of a draw they would pull and could bollow afford them?

I would LOVE to see voice actors myself! Hell, maybe even Maurice LeMarche who is in damn near everything. He was Brain and I think the only actor to branch all three spin off cartoons for Ghostbusters.

My point though, is that we haven't been getting a draw in the first place with choices in guests/celebrities as is, so thinking celebrities from social networking sites would either be the same outcome we have been getting, or better. That's all I'm saying. If what we've been doing, and the choices we've been picking for guests, haven't been working, it might not hurt to try something new.
Epic Meal Time would bring in a draw. Guaranteed. There were people at Cyphan even wearing their shirts this year.
