I wouldn't want them IN the contest. I just think stationed troopers in places would be hilarious. Checking badges Checking coats Escorting celebrities etc etc

Checking badges Checking coats Escorting celebrities etc etc I totally like your thinking Kearstin, However, being a trooper myself, I don't honestly think you'll get too many of them to do certain things, Checking badges, coats, probably a couple. Escorting Celebs - Definitly What we do for WW and C2E2 is heckle people in line right before the con starts. That's something that we could do too and a good amount of troopers are usually suited up in the morning. Just my .02 -River

I have a suggestion of the dealers room. Saturday and Sunday only. Unlike some of the dealers we at Outland Collectibles have fun at Cyphan and enjoy chatting with and meeting the Cyphans. We participated in some of the forums and saw a couple of the Films. We had fun at a con which is not a normal thing at a con for the dealers.

We were dealers as well. I think having it on Friday is still good, but maybe allow set up on Thursday afternoon so it's not as hectic on Friday morning? I know we drove three+ hours to get there, then it took unexpectedly long to unload (almost an hour!). Checking in for both the con and the hotel room was also somewhat of a time crunch.

We were also a dealer too and while we didn't have much 'set up' to do as some, we dug the friday thing pretty well.
I think perhaps giving the options of lowering prices if a dealer can come on Saturday and sunday only?
I dunno, as a con-goer i like seeing what other dealers have on a friday and then sunday come back to see if it's still for sale and talk to the vendor about it. Saturday it's just too crazy for me.
I would say, give a description of the size of the booth up front so we know how much space/room we have to play with. I saw some people and they had these large displays that just didn't fit within the confines of the space given. I think if we had that up front that would help. I didn't see anything like that listed on the website.
If more first time dealers come through, they may want to know how much space they have with one, two, even four tables/booths.
just a thought. -River

I don't remember the last time I actually bought from any vendors. When I do conventions, aside from costuming and panels, I focus on the celebrities and artist's alley.
Last time I GOT something from a vendor, was a Mystique statue from Adam Hughes's design, because he was at the convention and I wanted him to sign it (plus it's the design I based my Mystique costume from).
Other than that? Unless you give it to me for less than $10? I don't buy shit at cons haha\ And I HATE haggling. I feel so stupid. haha

I know, I'm just saying. I'm one of those guilty of the stupid economy. I'm broke as sssssshit. So, I rarely buy at conventions anymore. Just because. I'd rather you know... eat. lol HOWEVER! When time was AWESOME, you should see my collections lol I used to be an avid buyer. Now I can't Nothing against vendors! I just can't!

Money is tight all around. However, I can say that I do more impulse buying at cons than I do elsewhere.

Oh, I understand money being tight, I usually choose very specific items from conventions and wait until Sunday to buy.

Actually,
Kearstin brings up a point. part of the reason many of these con-goers didn't purchase much was lack of funds.
the economy has hit many people hard, and continues to do so! Don't get me wrong, i was salivating at the Dr. Who collectibles across from my booth. But honestly, i overheard their prices and i thought
"DAMN THAT'S EXPENSIVE!" So i think some of the vendors were over pricing their stuff a tad.
I think some of us in Artist Alley did pretty well, if anything we had people interested in our work, chatted with us for awhile (I saw Sparrow and the other artist next to her talking with people and that is always encouraging). In fact the guys that were sitting next to us, selling their movies, were making new fans and SELLING their FILMS!!!
So i think when it comes to he vendors. They are responsible for setting their prices. if they didn't sell much. Tooo F'in, Bad! lower your prices!
I personally feel, being an artist in artist alley, we got more opportunities to network and hopefully to sell our stuff. maybe not as much as we like, but i'm considering long term. i'm guessing by the next Cyphan, we'll have more fans that 'expect us' to be there.

River, inflated prices at cons is a standard. Either they are selling something that you can't get anywhere else, and you'll have to play through the nose of it, or you better know you can get it somewhere else and be able to tell them so. It's part of the con experience, good or bad.

Hey RF,
While I agree with your statement, honestly, i've ALWAYS found it cheaper (MUCH cheaper) on the net, or elsewhere.
I'm no stranger to the inflated prices on 'hard to find goods'. Thing is, i'm speaking more to the vendors who complained that they didn't make one sale all day. One vendor even leaving Saturday morning.
So all i'm saying is maybe they need to lower their prices if they can't sell anything.
otherwise, i don't buy anything at cons anymore. I'm broke too! LOL

We lowered prices on some of our items a bit and got more sales. $10 seemed to be the sweet spot for a lot of items.
Some, like our giant ass gun, we didn't lower prices on because we couldn't without losing money and time on it (Bellerophon was something like 20 hours of labor, a gun that retails for about $80, and an additional $30 in supplies). We didn't sell it, but we would not have been happy selling it for less either.
So...Saying you can get it cheaper online, ALWAYS, is not applicable to custom work. Bellerophon, for one, is one of a kind.

I don't know, I always find good deals at cons you just gotta look. Granted I didn't find anything really at Cyphan but then again there was really nothing I wanted either.
Now if that Dr Who booth would have had a remote control Dalek... I'da bought it and not thought twice about it.
