I know it's WAY outside the realm of possibility, but shooting for the moon, just brainstorming... You know what would be really, REALLY cool? If we could film a the scene in the bridge (with Captain Bollow, of course) where sensors pick up the time storm and evasive action is ordered. Of course, it's too late and the ship is pulled in. If we could film that, coupled with good CGI external shots of the ship pulled into the storm, wouldn't that make a great teaser hook on the home page of the website??? Something very similar to this scene from Titanic: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8CadIi00U4It's possible, A good friend of mine does have green screen and can make a virtual 'bridge' per se. he helped me add some special effects to one of my college films. he does charge, but we could always ask him if Bollow wants to go that route. Another friend does design (or did) spaceships in this 3d like program. and handed that to my other friend who does the green scree/special effects stuff. But there are plenty of people here that i'm sure can do the designs and stuff for the ship or even a virtual bridge? just a thought. -River

LOL, well, i just wanted to throw it out there if Bollow wanted to go that route. personally an illustrated slide show with sound effects would work. -River

I would just be careful with too much javascrip and flash. Although very awesome, sometimes a lot of people are either A. on a mobile device so it doesn't matter (and flash isn't viewable on the Apple iOS quite yet) and B. who really sits at a computer anymore unless they're at work... I know that's me LOL

LOL same here!
but you're right about the mobile/phone thing. I keep forgetting so many people are surfing on the phones now.
Well, i'm sure there could be 'something' that would be useful to detail the 'voyage'.

Here's the deal, if it can be done WELL, then it would be an AWESOME hook for people. If it's in any way cheesy, it will have the opposite effect. I guess it's up to Mr. Bollow.

I am a fan of a splash page. Tell the story, make a cool intro. They are easy enough to skip past if folks want to.

If you have to watch through it every time you go to a website, it's annoying. If you really want it, then make it easy to bypass upon return visits, IMO.

Well i think initially Bollow will give the option to skip past it if you want.
I personally like them, if i'm interested. what I can't stand is the ads that pop up as 'splash pages' and ilt's so hard to find the 'skip this ad' button.
But heck, If Bollow is done, make it where it doesn't take long to load?

I don't like them. Anytime I come across a page that doesn't get to the point the second I click on it, I close the window. I say, if you're going to want something to tell a story? Make it into a .mpeg or .mp4 and post it on the site somewhere to the side, or put it on Youtube.
Do what Cloverfield did... apply the story to social networking websites. Create fake news reels, create fake profiles (that was back in myspace days haha), create easter eggs that will tell the story WITHOUT telling the story (aka giving it away). Yet, leave those who don't want to hunt for those, alright with just 'showing up and loving it then' (aka, showing up to see the movie without the spoilers).
Make sense?

you're basically looking to go 'viral'?
Thing is, with like cloverfield most of those sites made NO sense with some 'idea' of what the actual movie was about.
For example the 'Slusho site' while cool was really only about 10 minutes total of seeing the guy wearing a slusho shirt? I've seen slusho being mentioend in some of JJ Abrams movies (or mentioned in dialogue) But I see that being a lot of effort and you're going to need a number of people to get involved with that project. While the idea is cool, logistically may be too much and not sure how much more buzz we can generate from that.
Creating a simple file and labelling it "Don't click here" will give that person an option to see or not see the mpeg.

One of the first things I learned in web design classes was never use a splash page for exactly the reasons Kirsten posted. That was like 6 years ago, it still boggles my mind that people use those.

You could still do a video linked to the home page, no? I mean, one people could choose to go to while investigating what Cyphan is, or wanting to learn more about the "theme"?

Yeah maybe put a video in an ABOUT US section, click to play, instead of on the homepage and autoplay?

If you have the homepage be a blog, which I recommend, make it a sticky post at the top as long as it isn't taking up too much screen realty. That way it is visible.
