I won't like the 80's music. I'll tell you that now. Not that my decision is the final or anything on music, but I'm only 25 and I can only handle 80's music, especially 80's POP music, for so long.
I love 80's hair metal though, but I'm not dancing to that.

So Ol' Blue Eyes is out of the question, then?

Here's the thing, with Cyphan we have a big range of age demographics. A large portion of our audience is over 30. We need to have a balance of music for everyone. It shouldn't be all 80s, but we need a few things for everyone--even couples dancing.

Here, here, Heather. That's why I suggested the the whole Time Warm themed thing. Oh, you could break it into eras and genres like XMRadio does. Maybe a half hour per category? What would really be cool is if the DJ changed his hat and/or wig and/or jacket to match the era, but that might be asking too much.

If you do that BEFORE the 80s music, it won't matter

lol Yes it will trust me. That's what happened this year. Every time the music bored me at the ball, I left to go drink. I didn't get destroyed and start taking my clothes off until after LMAO

Um... wow. That sounds like an argument for MORE 80s music, earlier!

if you guys wanna know this is how I used to DJ
at the start of the night my partner and I would start between 8-9pm with classic rock, 80's, some 90's mixed in till about 10-10.30. Then we would start kicking in the pop laced with hip hop and techno/club throughout the night.
Once in awhile we would "SLOW IT DOWN' for about 2-3 songs of slow stuff. Later in the eve and especially if we were to go from let's say techno to hip hop, cuz some hip hop songs are a bit slow but fun.
Now that was at the clubs/bars.
At weddings it was a bit different.
So (and thank you Cheeky) it definitly needs to go in stages. can those stages rotate and start back at the beginning? Absolutely! one needs to feel the crowd out. With a music request thread started that will hopefully give the DJ a better idea of what their crowd is going to want to hear and not 'guess' on everything.
If I DJ'd this would be a 'rough' lineup
Frank sinatra, Michael Buble' (yeah i'm a fan) Journey Heavy D Aerosmith DJ Jazzy Jeff AC/DC Metallica Weezer Bruno Mars Green day Usher My chemical Romance Justin Timberlake 50 cent Brittany Ke$ha Beyonce Remixes/techno
i think you see where i'm going?
Most of the time, that's how the crowd would seem to react. I've not DJ'd in some time so i'm not exactly sure.
but still, i hope that gives an idea of how 'i' think the night should go.
