That is a definite.
Ray Park would be awesome to have as the main guest.
Minor Celebs? has their been names tossed around (sans what already has been mentioned)

I've told Kearstin to push hard for Ray Park. I have the budget for ONE real celeb and I'm overdue for a kick-ass Star Wars celebrity. Plus he was snake-eyes in GI Joe. I want him there!! As for other celebs and non-celebs, they all want hotel and airfare and that adds up. I'm not paying for Tron Guy or a cosplay queen. I paid for Ginny McQueen and though she's a sweetheart, we didn't get ONE more person because of her. But Ray Park... I have the checkbook out... within reason...

Thank you for posting that list, Kearstin. I now need to go find myself a cane and tell the young whippersnappers to get off my lawn cause I'm so OLD and didn't recognize a single one of those.

Wow, that's a lot of work in just a day Kearstin. Nice work thus far. Queing into the 'older crowd' which I'm a member of (cough)...yet, the younger stuff does appeal to me. I am Big into Brittish Sci-Fi, but even though BBC America seems like a 'shot in the dark' - East/West Coast drive because of Comic-Con this past July. I wonder if their staff editors could send a 'johnny' to do a feel good piece about 1 month prior. Thoughts?

Seriously!?!?! Heck i'm surprised he's even popular anymore. I threw that in as an example of who 'i' remember on youtube and other celebs from that channel. Still, I beleive, Bollow, you even said you wanted the con to be more than just 'one' major celeb? so that's what i mean, has there been any other 'minor' celebs mentioned that CYPHAN attendees would like to see (other than what was already stated by Kearstin)? Or is that the list that we're going with? Heck, i can't even think that Summer Glau would be a major celeb since all her shows get cancelled anyway! LOL. But i'd loooovee to see her! -River

Ray Park would be an interesting guest -- TPM will be out in 3D next year, so there may be an uptick in interest, plus he's in GI Joe 2 due out August 2012, if I remember correctly. However, Ray Park is at a LOT of conventions, so he doesn't have as big a "WOW" factor as someone who isn't seen all that much. Just some things to consider as you try to guess your return on investment, as it were.

We can do ONE guest. If other actual celebs (like Jason Carter) want to come for the cost of a room and a table I will certainly consider it.
You guys would be shocked to find out what people cost. Summer Glau has a $20,000 guarantee. It doesn't matter if her stuff gets canceled or not - she's a cult figure. The catch is she only gets that kind of money at DragonCon or maybe SDCC. A small con like ours would get killed... like we did with Jewel Staite and Robert Picardo.
I agree that Ray Park has been all over, but what would make a big difference is the way our celebs interact with the attendees. The closeness and interaction we offer is unique so that might be a draw. Who knows? I have a small budget even for the ONE celeb so we are gonna have to choose very carefully from a very small pool.

I like the idea of Ray Park BUT, he's been to WWC twice in the last 2-3 years... I wouldn't call that a safe bet. BUT it would be hella fun. If you do get him, I'd try using some of the youtube links of him interacting with fans and the such at cons. I know there's a youtube somewhere that shows him showing off his saber skills in the middle of the show floor.

I hear where Bollow is going with this.
so Summer Glau $20K, there's a draw, but it's not gauranteed she'd actually show up and what of the fan interaction? I would assume she's awesome with her fans.
Ray Parks - $$$ - unknown, but great with fans, may be more apt to come party at the cyphan ball. etc. etc. More PARK for your Buck! LOL

The list was me just dishing out ideas. I'm actually surprised that Ginny didn't bring a single person to the table other than me who knew who she was. However, I stalk all of her shit, and she barely mentioned the convention at all. If anything, she fkn complained about the airfare... remember, Bollow? ON PUBLIC TWITTER?
Nobody wants a debbie downer.
As for Ray Park, I think he'd make an awesome guest of honor. THE only REAL celebrity (you know, that has a agent lol). He goes to conventions all the time everywhere, not just Chicago. I'm pretty sure he goes to DCon every year, too. I think the fact that he like to interact with his fans gives enough inticing invite to people at Cyphan since it's casual and smaller. More of a chance to interact and talk to him, rather than wait shoulder to shoulder in line for 40min because Wizard staff has a hard on for authority power trips.
My only concern with him seriously is because he just fired his agent AND he's shooting GI Joe 2. Guess it depends on dates and all of that in the end!
Epic Meal Time I feel would be awesome to have on board because of their 'show'. If they performed a live show for our program, I think that would be appealing rather than "we have a booth come say hi and buy things". I spoke to Harley on getting more specifics on how his first live performance of his show went. Seemed it went awesome, and not really messy, but I'm waiting on more details. (he is a busy dude)
David Lagana, I might need Bollow to dish his professional words to him about what is expected, negotiated and all of that. I wouldn't even really call him a celebrity, but he is a big deal.
Summer Glau would be awesome, but she's too much of a underground hit. Just like Nathion Fillion. In a bunch of stuff, not entirely HUGE, but LOTS know who they are and because of that, it's enough reason to charge a lot. Unecessarily more her than Fillion though lol
I do feel though if we can somehow still contact Ray Park (he still hasn't gotten back to me yet on agent info or alternatives), tossing the 501st affiliation with a lot of us might be persuading!

I think Nathan Fillion is bigger than you give him credit for, haha. After all, he's in Castle now too.

I love Nathan Fillion,
especially in Dr. Horrible.
But right, he's not seeing much Con action. which is fine, and he does twitter like all get out! LOL
In the case that Ray can't make it, has there been other names possibly thrown in there just in case?
I like the idea of Epic Meal Time doing a live show at Cyphan. Very cool and totally doable IMO.
Still, what's the 'plan B' if Ray can't commit?

Another back up plan would be Sam Witwer. You've got somebody who fits lots of different genres, Star Wars, BSG, Smallville, Being Human & more and he's from the area originally.
And he's never done a local con to my knowledge other than Metropolis' Superman Fest.
Granted I have no idea what his guarantee would be since he's grown a bit more popular the last few years but I think he would be a good draw, if he's not too busy.
