I suppose some bands need gaurantees. Also as I had stated if people 'lliked' the band they would buy their cds'. If not then they are S.O.L. But bands are bands. cover, or otherwise.
I keep thinking about a DJ and that could cost bollow up to $100 an hour for a DJ. Some DJ's moreso.
If there is no cantina, perhaps then a lounge type area? I think that would be a nice spot for people to look over their goodies, talk about the con. etc.
an internet bar perhaps?
then later in the eve it turns into a dance hall?
Would be awesome if we had people who would come and waiter/waitress guests who came in there and served them drinks. but that could be for a Cyphan down the road.
So no Cantina, but a Cantina-like place?

That is a fabulous idea. A con lounge. A place to just sit and chat other than in the middle of the hallways.

Exactly, how great would it be if you could go to the 'lounge' area and chill out, maybe some cool tunes in the back, somethng reminscent of either a Steampunk, or play some sound effects of a busy gaming hall or something?
I dunno, i'm just thinking of a cost effective way of using the room.
Hell maybe have a setup, like they do at MSI where you email someone and say "Havin' a hell of a time at Cyphan' and send them a virtual greeting card?
or better yet, if you have your 'cyphan photographer' come and take their pic and load it up to that computer they can find it and either load it up via facebook, twitter, or send it to their friends.
Again, just a thought.

Personally, I wish i could smoke a nice cigar in a lounge with a good drink at my side. That would be my idea of lounging. -River

NICE Comi-couch. I like the sound of that! I wouldn't be surprised if someone sat down next to Greedo reading a comic or two! -River

Be cautious of internet bars, not only could the hotel potentially throw a huge fit over it, but hotel internet security is typically woefully inept. Most any experienced programming geek could lift passwords, no problem.
Now if these are pictures getting pushed online in just one account, with no monetary transactions via the internet occurring, then you should be fine so long as that photodump doesn't allow access to anything else that could be potentially damaging.

Guys, this is the Hyatt, remember? There's extra fees for internet access, probably per IP address, and electricity, and a multiple fee fee...

Good point sparrow,
But the pics should all go on some sort of external hard drive, and we should have a manned booth so no one yanks the hard drive.
But you and Troy are probably right, the hotel may have a fit, charge Bollow up the A$$ for god knows what, and get paranoid.
anyhoo, it was just a thought to add something to the lounge area. Perhaps the hotel could set up their own little bar there? but at certain hours? Maybe that's asking too much too as Bollow could be taxed with a dollar minimum to have that one guy there manning the bar.
OOORRRR,
perhaps we could have a projector playing movies of Ray Park's films? if he is going to be the main host, that would be pretty neat. Keep the volume down so people can chill perhaps watch parts of the film, chat in another part of the lounge, etc.
perhaps even see if the Hotel would allow us to purchase drinks at their bar and bring it to the Cyphan Lounge.
heck! have a 'weapons/coat check/bag' spot? Charge people $1 - $2 to keep their props there, items they purchased, etc. this way they don't have to go back to their rooms or worse, their cars?
we can add more to this lounge. these are just a few ideas.

ANYTHING you can think of costs money. Internet access, electricity... all of it.
We are doing the film room again but this time it will be real movies (Raiders, Ghostbusters, Star Wars, etc). It turns out that as long as there is no charge to get in that room, it's not a problem. It's only when you charge to watch it that it's a legal issue.
If we get Ray Park, we will show Phantom Menace and GI Joe for sure!

River, I would LOVE to see a coat check! If we have a small room available to us, just throw a bunch of tables in there with a card system and have just one or two people man it for security. You could even just get two decks of unusual playing cards, give the matching one to the person with the item to keep track.

BINGO! and bollow can charge for that coat check, like $1.00 a coat, $2.00 for your props (cuz honestly that's a value to that person so you can charge more) and whoever is workign that coat check could earn tips? Bollow i hope you know i'm thinking of other ways for you to create income. At least I hope it's coming acrossed that way. -River

Some ideas on bands, what about genre bands like the Browncoats or Pottercore bands (are those still around?), I found a Star Wars one a while ago called Order 66.
