The interstellar cruise ship Olympia is on it's maiden voyage when it is taken over by a rogue military force led by none other than Admiral Con and piloted deeper and deeper into a multidimensional rift-storm!
How many strange folk will find themselves stranded on the wayward vessel? Will they ever get home? Will they want to after all the great parties? Will the Olympia's course ever be righted? Will the captain ever stop shaking his fist at the heavens screaming "CCCCOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!"...?
Find out next year at...Cyphan 3: The Wrath of Con!

The key will be the website.
When you go, you will see it's comic book hero's, sci-fi, fantasy, etc all together on this voyage.
People will buy into it if they want to come have fun. If they are a specific thing only -- they aren't coming anyway. I book Firefly and no firefly show up. I book star trek and no star trek show up. They go to LAME ASS creation cons and stand in line to overpay for actors crap because it's ONE THEME and they are too mentally incapacitated to attend a con that is a little bit of everything awesome.
We gotta do this con for US and if people wake up and smell the cool... they will join the party.

If the Key is the Website,
So really push the website, not the actual 'voyage of the damn'. I would say that should 'pop up' on the website when someone goes/logs into, the website.
This way it's got that 'cool factor' of "dum de dum, typing away to check out cyphan.com... dum de dum...WOAH what was that!?!? VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED??? WHAT???"
..and then a cool little comic strip/illustration like presentation ensues.
just a thought.

I agree with River. Push the website and "Science-Fiction and Fantasy United" hard. That should be in every interview, every flier, every postcard, every button. I'll be honest -- I didn't even KNOW that tagline existed until it was mentioned on this board.

As such, the sooner you can update the main page, the better. Some kind of teaser poster would be awesome. "Coming Summer 2012..."

So back to theme... I think we should decide on one though because this will determine the environment on the website design, too

The theme can be anything we choose! It could be the Gilligan's Isle theme and that's fine.
The cruise ship is awesome. i'm still wary of the "Voyage of the Damned" subtitle. I'll just sit back and see what others post. i'm sure plenty of people have ideas that haven't been voiced yet.
Personally i still like "WHEN IN THE FRACK ARE THEY!" LOLOL

Even though we are an "everything" costuming con, it's hard to deny that sci-fi isn't the biggest chunk of what we are. I really want to keep that kind of feel on the website. The theme will change every year but it will be a hassle to change the site layout every year.
I have a buddy that does 3D rendering and he may design the cruise ship for us, incorporating parts of the hotel into the design (like the dome). I think this should come up first when you type in cyphan.com and then you proceed to the main site from there.
Question for KFN: how can I update the site and stuff when the design is over on your machine? This is the trouble with iWeb!

I can do the original layout and send you the HTML files to upload into YOUR iWeb. Then you just publish to your FTP. I wouldn't publish it. I host on MobileMe, yo' haha

I like this idea!!! Would you guys and gals like an actor to play the evil Admiral Con?? If so I totally volunteer! Mike should be the Captain of the Olympia and the hero (of course). We could have alot of fun with this!
