I’m all for the Interstellar cruise ship theme, but I don’t know about “The Voyage of the Dammed”. Cyphan is a costuming con and mostly Sci-Fi costumes. I still think keeping theme open to variety of groups and not limiting it. The interstellar cruise ship Olympia is on its maiden voyage is a good Idea. The launch could be the opening ceremony and rescue the closing ceremony.

Maybe a "title" isn't so crucial. I mean, really, the title is "Cyphan III." The "theme" is really more of a story.

While compiling a playlist for the Music thread, I realized there was plenty of music on it to thrash to. Then I realized that if we had a villain, he could hijack the dance-floor and turn it into a mosh pit for a few songs 'till thwarted or placated with women and cupcakes... ...or whatever villains go for these days.

I like the idea of a 'Villian"
When i've been to some "Major" work functions (the ones they fly you out to Disney for) they always had a hostess or 'characters' if you will. And they would float around either in-between sessions, during presentatation, etc.
Mike, would it be cool to come up with a "Villian" like Erik said? Someone that would float around the con, pass lollipops to kids while telling the "Scream whenever you hear the secret word" (just an example), Harrass congoers, interrupt some sessions/panels, etc?
And like Vandal Said, during the Cyphan Ball, have him appear in the middle of the dance floor and start moshing, headbanging, whatever it is.
I mean, you'd basically be looking at a mascot (ala Mario/Nintendo, Sonic/Sega, etc).
But Bollow would be the hero in his stunning Admiral outfit. and either shoo the guy away with smart witty banter, a ray gun, or a cream pie! LOLOL.
sorry i'm getting a bit carried away. But big picture here, it seperates Cyphan from other cons. somethign people would probably look forward to next year. etc.

River has a great idea! It all comes down to the story. Is the time storm something the villain cause? If so, to what end? What is he trying to accomplish and how does disrupting the con help him do that? Ultimately, how does the hero stop him? T
This is all really good stuff IMO

Okay, I asked all those questions, and then I thought about it, and I have some ideas.
The villain is a rogue temporal agent who was sentenced to eternity in the heart of a temporal vortex (of course, eternity is pretty subjective in a place where time is meaningless). This temporal vortex is at the center of the temporal storm that pulled in the Olympic. He sees the ship as a possible escape vehicle, but he has to be crafty in how he interacts with people of different times because he does not want to risk changing anything that would preclude his own existence. He also does not want to draw the attention of any temporal agents. IDK what that has to do with disrupting the con, but it sounds timey-wimey.

Idea for Cyphan 3 opening and closing ceremony. My thought is to have you, as captain, christening the new ship Olympia when something goes horribly wrong! Basically we can build a 5th dimension slip stream drive using an aquarium and some lights. We have you hit it with a plastic bottle to begin the voyage and instead of breaking the bottle you break the drive! this can be done by having colored lights rapidly blink on and off in the drives chamber. This malfunction causes security to inform you of temporal rifts opening all over the ship and the dreaded admiral Con has escaped! Your top engineer tells you it will take three days to repair! This could help with a kids scavenger hunt where they find replacement parts!
Closing ceremonies are simple Engineering gets the drive back on line just in time to get the ship back to space dock safely

The whole weekend could be a "who done it?" game where everybody has to figure out who the villain is!
I am also all about the opening and closing ceremonies!!

I love the opening and closing ceremonies, the "It'll take 3 days to fix this", and the kids scavenger hunt. I want to avoid the timey-wimey stuff so that we won't have to spend five minutes explaining the story while saying "temporal" forty-two times... "The experimental Cyphan-star drive is malfunctioning so instead of it teleporting the ship anywhere, it's teleporting everywhere to the ship! If we don't stop it, we'll create another big crunch!" We're looking to create a Palladium Rifts scenario where anything and everything can exist in one place. That way after the malfunction of the ship, a procession of 501st can march up and demand an explanation...only to have some viper pilots and SG-1 fly through a door, confused and guns held high. And then the elves show up...

OMG.
I LOVE that, Stormtroopers, VIPER PILOTS, ELVES!! OH MY!!!
This is gettin' better all the time.
Bollow, perhaps you can 'infer' or at least state, at the Holiday Ball, that Cyphan 3 will be a cruise ship theme and we will be christening our new cruise ship at opening Cermonies.
as you continue with your speech at bit longer, a harrowing, bollowing, laugh is heard through the speakers and someone saying "YES, my chance to escape draws near!"
...or something to that effect.
anyway, think of it as a 'teaser' at the holiday ball.
Heck, i know this big guy with a heluva voice that would make a great villian laugh.

WOOO!! Where are my platforms! LOLOL Unless your cosplaying GWAR or Galaxy Quest's Mathesar, NO! Bad River! (both of those costumes, btw, would have a place at Cyphan)
